I'm thinking about picking this up. How gruesome is it? I often play video games while my daughter is awake and if it's too bloody then I can only play it at night, (which is fine but I may buy Halo 5 instead.)
Finished up with Ballistic Weave last night. Once you've joined the Railroad do one or two quests from Dr. Carrington until P.A.M. will give you a quest. Then only go to her and it should be the third/fourth from her that you'll be asked to retrieve the DIA cache. After that then talk to Tinker Tom, he'll give you something cool and Ballistic Weave will be unlocked. Sadly it doesn't work on the cool clothing like Road Leathers and similar items. Only a very limited number of things can use it. You can use it on full outfits though, like the Minutemen outfit, Courser armor, Silver Shroud and so on. It's pretty OP in conjunction with armor though. I unlocked the first level of it for my Military Fatigues and went from 62/60/10 to 97/90/10. So in theory if you have a full outfit with armor stats, like the Courser armor, it could easily produce upwards of 200 damage resistance at the max level and it also works on certain hats which could be worn together with said armor. Very much worth the minimal time investment to unlock it.
Beets I wouldn't say this is a kid-friendly game. The actual blood isn't that bad (unless you have Bloody Mess) but a lot of the environments, imagery, creatures, etc are not stuff I'd like my nephews, or kids if I had any, to see. That being said it's very much worth picking up to play after she's in bed.
So. I've spent the last two days doing nothing on this game. Not a sigle mission. I've been playing with the settlement mode, and having a wonder around.
I'm sure many have figure their own money and health making techniques out, but I'll share mine.
Build 2 industrial water purifiers, powered by a large generator. Every day or so (in game) you'll get sill amounts of purified water - either 40 or 80 a day. This can be sold, or kept for rad-free health regen. It's best to sell it to your own settlements stores - you'll get cut of the profits.
I have so much water now, its daft. My biggest problem now is the shopkeepers don't have enough money to buy all my water lol.
Wow never even thought of that. I haven't had much issue with money but I just explore and make plenty thay way. I grab whatever decent things I find along the way fill my pockets with stuff before I'm near a place to sell or fast travel once I'm about full. Plus my pack mule.... I mean dog is full
Got the alien blaster tonight. Completely by accident lol.
Yeah, I found it sometime last week as well. It's odd where it was. Usually they put it in some far corner of the map where you have no business being unless you're hardcore exploring. Blasted a couple raiders with on my way back to Sanctuary and added it to my collection of legendary items. I just really want to get leveled up to where I can swap my combat rifle to .308 and suppress it.
I'd like to make my combat 308 as ammo is cheaper and easier to find but I like the stopping power of 45. I think I'm going to level up the ammo scavenger tonight with the point I was trying to figure out how it would best be used.
I know claret doesn't have the issue but anyone who wants to make caps disposable, there's a glitch to lookup which will basically allow u to purchase everything the vendor has for nothing
The .308 does more damage than the .45 but I'm concerned about how it will affect the AP used per shot. I'll just have to cross that bridge when I come to it, hopefully this weekend.
Moved into the castle last night. Patched up the walls using foundations, and just need to get food sorted. Deffinately more defendable than sanctuary (I've got 2 kill zones) not that I've been attacked yet. I'm expecting a future patch to make attacks happen far more often.
I haven't enjoyed a game so much in years.
What's peoples preferred weapon so far? I'm using silenced pistols for missions or introuble, or an assault rifle for exploring.
I use a .45 scoped combat rifle for nearly everything. I also have a nice .308 sniper rifle that does more damage than my combat rifle and has a better scope and more range for even further distances. I have a pretty good 10mm pistol which I keep with me if needed. I also have atleast 1 variation of a laser gun with me, and now a gamma gun. Ammo seems to be my biggest downfall, so i try to keep a gun that shoots all kinds.
Ive pretty much abandoned my combat rifle (except recently as i haven't had ammo for my preferred weapon). I was using mine as an all around weapon because the ammo capacity was ok, rate of fire was ok, range was ok and damage was good. I was always carrying multiple weapons at a time anyways as i didnt want to run out of ammo so recently ive started using a .50 sniper rifle for my mid to long ranged stuff, and a recoil supressed heavy combat shotgun for my mid to close range stuff. The shotgun has much more power than my combat rifle, similar ammo capacity (but i use way less ammo) much less range, similar fire rate if not better, and ammo for a shotgun is usually more abundant than .45 ammo.
I did recently just pick up a better combat rifle, same rate of fire than the one i had, more power and more range. But .45 ammo still isnt great to find or buy and changing it to 308 it loses even more power and currently it isnt keeping up with my .50 cal for range or with my shotgun for close range in power anyways.
I've got a suppressed .50 for long range but right now it's maxed out at 115 damage I believe and only 3 shots in VATS. Whereas my .308 combat rifle does 105(I think, it's at least 100) damage and has 6 shots in VATS. Maybe it's because Scrounger was the 2nd or 3rd perk I picked up but I've never had a problem finding ammo. I've got 600+ .50 rounds, close to 1000 .308 and just sold 500+ .45 when I upgraded my receiver. And Piper is carrying 1300+ fusion cells for her laser rifle.
I hear you with the combat shotgun though, I was back and forth for a while with it and the combat rifle. Just felt the sniper/shotgun combo left me exposed at midrange if I ran out of AP.
I really, really, really hope that more weapons find their way into the game, whether its through DLC or mods. I feel like they slacked on the number of actual weapon platforms for this game because of the customization options.

So has anyone else started playing with mods yet? I started a new game with some but have decided to scrap it after making a new mod list yesterday, despite the 2GB limit you can still get a good amount in there. Once I get this new list up and running I'll post some screenshots.
