The 2017 Porsche #92 GT Team 911 RSR tuned by PTG W4RLOCK and painted by PTG Wildcat is a mid-engine RWD that is a beast to drive. It has a 6 speed sequential transmission with a 4.0L naturally aspiration engine producing 375kW and 461 N-m.
PTG W4RLOCK has done a tremendous job in balancing the weight distribution and aerodynamics of this car, while maintaining a good amount of traction in the rear. The 2017 911 RSR is the first time Porsche have gone with a mid-engine in the 911’s 53 year history. This was due to the ability to add a rear diffuser in all GTE race cars and it now sits where the bottom of the engine used to be.
One aspect of the 911 RSR that I have really struggled with in other tunes is slipping at the rear while the car is decelerating. This tune manages this problem much better and the weight feels more balanced over all four wheels. I would still recommend using the brake while gently releasing the accelerator to keep the car more stable through corners, especially at corner entry. I also personally tend to brake a touch earlier and hit an early apex to maintain better speed through corners in this car but I encourage you to experiment with this to see what works best for you.
In terms of the appearance of the 2017 Porsche #92 GT Team 911 RSR it is certainly one of my favourites in the GTE space. While this car was built from scratch it still maintains its typical 911 design and will stand out from the crowd with its fresh design by the highly talented PTG Wildcat. It now has a top mounted rear wing which was adopted from the LMP1 919 Hybrid, therefore significantly improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the car to try and gain every bit of an advantage over its competitors.
In summary, this is a must try for all types of car fans. It is a challenging, yet exhilarating car to drive. I found that I was able to really push this tune to its limits, while still being able to control the rear through corners without losing any speed. This is by far the most fun you will have while sitting down.
See you on the track.
